FEATURE: Spring 2006, Biofeedback Intravaginal SEMG Biofeedback . Spring 2006 3 This paper summarizes the work of the author in the field of pelvic floor muscle surface electromyography in the diagnosis and treatment of lower urogenital tract pain disorders. The history, definition, and treatment of vulvodynia is reviewed. The origins of pelvic floor surface electromyography (SEMG) biofeedback in the treatment of vulvar pain disorders are discussed. The derivation of specific protocols are presented along with highlights of the last 10 years of the author’s peerreviewed published works.
